Strengthening Tourism Entrepreneurship and Inclusive Growth in Morocco and Namibia

In partnership with the TUI Care Foundation, we are implementing a two-year program (September 2025–August 2027) to strengthen tourism entrepreneurship and sustainable value creation in Morocco and Namibia. 


Building on the strong results and key learnings from the TUI Futureshaper program in Senegal, the initiative is designed to address structural challenges that limit inclusive growth in both tourism markets. 



The program supports 20 tourism SMEs and 10 startups through two distinct but complementary tracks, both delivered over a 14-month period. SMEs take part in a business and digital strengthening program combining 1:1 mentoring with hands-on workshops, focused on market access, operational efficiency, and access to finance. Startups join a dedicated venture-building track, also delivered through individual mentoring and group workshops, to refine business models, accelerate growth, and prepare for investment. Both tracks are closely integrated with local and international ecosystem partners to maximize impact.


A key highlight will be a week-long Investor Trip to Namibia in autumn 2026, bringing together program participants, ecosystem actors, and selected international investors to unlock funding, partnership, and market access opportunities. 


Overall, the initiative aims to strengthen collaboration across tourism ecosystems, enhance the competitiveness of local businesses, and foster inclusive growth—supporting around 80 entrepreneurs, contributing to 850 jobs, and positively impacting approximately 4000 livelihoods in Morocco and Namibia.

develoPPP Ventures Opens its Second Funding Cycle in 2025

After backing over 100+ start-ups across Africa, develoPPP Ventures—commissioned by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development (BMZ) and implemented by the Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH and DEG Impulse—has re-opened applications for African young start-ups from Nigeria and South Africa. 

develoPPP Ventures is a funding programme that enables founders to access EUR 100,000 in catalytic, non-dilutive funding along with tailored strategic support. It targets companies seeking to invest sustainably in a target country and expand local operations. Prerequisites for support are a long-term business interest in the country and a clearly demonstrable sustainable development benefit for the local people. 


What’s on offer 

  • Non-dilutive capital of EUR 100,000 for scaling up  

  • Tailor-made technical assistance and strategic guidance by sector experts 

  • Connections across Africa’s fast-growing venture landscape & community with other portfolio ventures

  • Up to EUR 200,000 top-up funding based on start-up performance and availability of funds in the programme 


Eligibility Overview

To qualify for develoPPP Ventures, start-ups must be privately owned, tech enabled, profit-driven, and have demonstrated market traction with at least one annual financial statement available. Women-led ventures and those advancing gender equality are strongly encouraged to apply.


Key Participation Requirements 

  • The company must be registered in South Africa or Nigeria (or plan to do so before receiving investment). 

  • The company should not have acquired more than a maximum of EUR 2 million in funding to date. 

  • The start-up must have a market-ready product or service generating initial revenues and demonstrating clear proof-of-concept. 

  • Start-ups must provide evidence of matching investment equal to the develoPPP Ventures contribution (EUR 100,000) from private investors or a combination of private and grant funding—secured either within six months prior to application or before disbursement. 

  • Applicants must present a comprehensive 3-year business and financial plan outlining strategic use of funds, growth trajectory, and key milestones. 

  • The business model should demonstrate measurable impact, strong scalability, and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) — and the use of funds must take place in the target country.

Embarking on a journey of discovery, the SPTA Investor Trip to Abidjan in May 2023 offered a firsthand glimpse into the promising startup landscape of Côte d'Ivoire. Renowned for its stability and transparent business environment, Côte d'Ivoire is a strategic gateway to the thriving West African market. This immersive experience was a collaboration between GreenTec Capital Africa Foundation and SPTA, united by the goal of propelling African tech entrepreneurs to scale their ventures. 

With a spotlight on the tech sector and women's empowerment, the agenda was brimming with engaging activities. The tour began with an insightful guided exploration of Abidjan, setting the stage for what was to come. Throughout the trip, delegates had the privilege to interact with founders spanning various sectors, gaining valuable insights and networking opportunities. Engagements with local hubs and development partners provided a deeper understanding of the ecosystem's dynamics. A special dinner with the German ecosystem in Abidjan fostered cross-cultural connections and exchange of ideas.

A pivotal moment awaited the delegation as they secured a meeting with the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and SME Promotion. Discussions centered on facilitating foreign SME investment in Côte d'Ivoire, priority sectors, and bolstering Ivorian-German cooperation. The ministry praised GreenTec Capital Africa Foundation and GIZ for their efforts to bring German investors to the country, expressing anticipation for future collaborations.

Panels delved into the Agri-Business, women and youth sectors, offering a comparative perspective between Germany and Côte d'Ivoire. Ecosystems in both countries were explored, offering insights into the private sector and startup landscapes. Startups, a key focus of the trip, showcased their ventures through compelling pitches and Q&A sessions, igniting interest and interaction.

Networking events enriched connections, with GreenTec's organized event gathering 53 participants from the startup ecosystem. As the trip concluded, feedback from investors was overwhelmingly positive. An impressive 100% would recommend joining future investor trips organized by GreenTec, with 71% expressing heightened interest in Africa as a viable investment destination. The trip's impact was tangible, fostering collaboration, knowledge exchange, and a stronger bond between the European and African startup communities.
