Thomas Festerling

Thomas is our CFO and co-founder, who brought his extensive financial and investment background to the development of our unique investment approach.

In the middle of a successful career at Deutsche Bank (DB), Thomas decided to apply his wealth of financial expertise towards work with more direct impact. Familiar with the challenges in emerging markets through his family ties to Peru, he started by volunteering with several projects In Africa and Latin America. Experiencing that his abilities and knowledge could make a significant difference for companies and projects that wanted to grow in Emerging Markets, he decided to make it his full-time business. Thomas was head of Product Management (International & Customized Funds) at DB’s Asset Management subsidiary and was promoted to Director within 5 years, resulting in more than 10 years of financial experience and a comprehensive network in the financial industry.

He speaks fluent English and Spanish in addition to his native German. He is married and in early 2015, he became first-time father to a son who he wants to grow up in a better world.

Erick Yong

Erick is our CEO and co-founder and has helped developed our unique investment approach that combines funding, knowledge transfer, and capacity building.

Erick has traveled extensively since he was young and has lived in various countries while traveling with his parents. He has Cameroonian roots, although he was born in Bonn, Germany and attending university in France. Erick became an entrepreneur and strategic consultant immediately after his studies, where he further developed his strategic thinking skills and comprehensive track record of launching and scaling up new business concepts. He is also a specialist in international marketing strategies, implementing brand strategies, marketing plans and communication campaigns. He has also directed innovation efforts and managed international teams in executing company strategies with global vision.

He is especially passionate about the environmental as well as the economic impact of his projects.

Erick speaks English, French, and German and is well-versed in cross-cultural collaboration. He has a passion for basketball and used to be a professional player in his youth.

Erick is our specialist for working with startups, global strategy and business development.




Moses Acquah

Moses Acquah has over 12 years of professional experience in the tech industry. He is a technology business leader, an agile coach, and an innovation specialist. He is very passionate about impact innovation, appropriate technology, entrepreneurship, and sustainability.

Moses is very analytical and solution-oriented, and has a great entrepreneurial mind and business spirit. He is a versatile and agile individual, who has worked with different international organizations in North America, Asia, Europe, and Africa. Since 2008, he climbed the ranks at Nokia and Microsoft (Software engineer, Quality Assurance, Business Intelligence & Financial Applications specialist) and was appointed as Innovation Manager to set up the Nokia Research Center in West Africa in 2013. He later assumed the role of Ghana Market Manager for Microsoft and was hen appointed as the VP for Microsoft’s startup venture - Spectra Wireless.

Moses is of Ghanaian descent and graduated from the University of Ghana with a B.A. degree in Information Studies and Psychology. He also holds an MBA in Business Informatics and Master’s Degrees in Software Engineering and Industrial Management from Metropolia University of Applied Sciences, Finland.

Moses is our Senior ICT Company builder working on technology and development strategies with startups, investors, and global technology partners.


Nils Hafa

Nils comes from a background in finance and has more than 10 years’ experience in the finance, support, and development of startups. Mr. Hafa has extensive social impact experience from his role as the location head of the Social Impact Lab in Frankfurt. Nils’ business development experience includes being a XING Ambassador for the Startup community group on XING, a founder at GründerTaxi, and the Frankfurter Gründerfonds operated via ConCap Connective Capital. Mr. Hafa’s training includes specializations in career consulting, business management, and banking. Nils is passionate about social impact and helping entrepreneurs to succeed. 

Nils speaks fluent English as well as his native German. He is passionate about fitness and has participated in several half triathlons. Furthermore, he loves sailing, as he grew up sailing on a dinghy after school in the northern Germany. Nils is married, lives in Wiesbaden, and has two sons and two daughters. He also loves travelling, especially in Asia.

Xavier Bertrand

After 13 years in Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Law department of Top-Tier law firms in Paris (including Ginestie & Co and King & Wood Mallesons), as well as in the Mergers & Acquisitions international department of the industrial group leader Alstom, Xavier established a Mergers & Acquisitions and Business Law firm in Paris.

He has developed a specialization in investments and deals in Europe and specific emerging markets: Africa, Russia and Middle East. In Africa, Xavier has been involved in deals in South Africa, Morocco, Egypt, Nigeria, Burkina Faso and Guinea Conakry. He has notably advised the Chaâbi-Ynna Group, one of the oldest and largest private industrial groups of Morocco. At Ginestie & Co and King & Wood Mallesons law firms Xavier acquired extensive expertise in advising private equity funds on the acquisition and disposal of companies.

Xavier was admitted at the Paris Bar after a Masters from La Sorbonne and Assas Law Schools. He speaks French and English and has developed skills to study and adapt to local cultural environments to lead cross-border negotiations with a high level of mutual cultural understanding.

Xavier is a specialist for legal matters.


Nicholas Kendall

Nicholas joined our team from an academic background in Social Science with extensive experience in web-development, sales, and e-commerce. He has traveled extensively, including extended time in Ukraine as a Fulbright Scholar, and repeated trips to Central Asia during the course of his studies. He is passionate about social and environmental impacts, with keen interests in renewable energy, sustainability, and technology.

Nicholas is our business support consultant, assisting our portfolio companies with grant research and applications, copy-writing, and editing communications. In addition to those administrative tasks, he also plays a key role in assessing various strategic partnerships for potential synergies with our startups.

Nicholas speaks English and Ukrainian fluently, with abilities in Russian, French, and German. He holds a Masters Degree in Anthropology from Washington University in St. Louis as well as a Masters Degree in Classics from the University at Albany, State University of New York.

Nicholas is our communications and business support consultant.

François Améguidé

François Améguidé is a private equity and corporate finance veteran bringing more than 14 years’ investment experience and deal-making from many corners of the African continent to GreenTec Capital. Most recently he held the role of Principal Private Equity at Coast2Coast Capital in South Africa, where he was responsible for sourcing and developing investment opportunities across Africa.

François holds a Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree from the University of Cape Town and an MBA from the Gordon Institute of Business Science (GIBS). Currently, he is a doctoral candidate in Business Administration at the Maastricht School of Management.

François is very passionate about youth mentoring and leadership as well as the economic development of Africa. He is fluent in French and English.

He is the head of our Africa Office in Johannesburg, South Africa and responsible for identifying and vetting new investments and implementing our strategy on-the-ground in Africa.

Peter Grouev

After a 12 year career across varied investment banks in the USA, Peter has recently departed the banking sector in pursuit of  entrepreneurial opportunities more closely aligned with his passion for renewable energy and sustainability investing. 

Peter held a wide range of roles within debt capital markets, including portfolio strategy, fixed-income research, credit analysis and risk management, as well as mortgage structuring, trading and portfolio management. His most recent role was a Director of mortgage trading at Bank of America Merrill Lynch in New York, USA. 

He speaks English and Bulgarian fluently, while having some command of Russian and German as well. Peter has an MBA from Mannheim Business School (Germany)/ ESSEC Business School (France), as well as a B.Sc. in Finance and Economics from Carroll University, USA. Additionally, he is a certified expert in climate and renewable energy finance.

Peter is our specialist for investment strategy, risk management and  valuation, as well as debt finance and capital markets.
